What prompted me to pursue my postgraduate studies once again was the combination of inadequate volume forecasting and modeling conducted by the data team, along with the evolving landscape of digital banking. Despite the business's efforts to provide as much information as possible to the data team, there seemed to be uncertainty about what they didn't know and what information they required. I firmly believe that there's a solution to every problem, which led me to embark on this journey.
This week marks the completion of one-third of my journey in the SMU Master of IT in Business program at Singapore Management University. I'm incredibly grateful for the significant benefits this program has provided me. Not only has it refreshed my knowledge of risk and compliance, but it has also equipped me with the latest advanced technologies and RegTech solutions to tackle the challenges faced by banks. With these tools at my disposal, I am confident that every problem has a solution. Today, many FinTech startups have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in addressing such challenges faced by the data team. Perhaps, finding the right person for the job is crucial.
I owe a great deal of gratitude to Dr Patrick Thng, whose insights into fintech startups and digital innovation have significantly broadened my understanding. His encouragement to attend the Singapore FinTech Festival was invaluable. The Festival provided a good platform to discover, learn, and exchange ideas with experts and peers from around the world. I was particularly impressed by the innovative technologies showcased by startups, especially in the areas of trade surveillance and transaction monitoring.
Furthermore, Professor Randall Duran's class has enabled me to delve deeper into the challenges encountered by banks in terms of risk and compliance, further enhancing my comprehension of the industry's complexities. I am eager to witness how the innovative technologies showcased by fintech startups can be integrated into traditional banking settings. While fintech startups often possess cutting-edge technology, banks have access to vast amounts of training data, presenting an opportunity for collaboration and integration that could drive even greater innovation and efficiency in the banking sector.
Additionally, I have had the pleasure of meeting some excellent classmates/friends in this program. I can't wait to attend the rest of the MITB modules, which include analytics, digital payments, and more. Lastly, I am excited about the prospect of applying what I've learned in my next career opportunity. The knowledge and skills gained from the MITB program will undoubtedly prove invaluable as I embark on this new professional journey.
